About RentalProof

Know your rights.
Prove your case.

We build tools and publish guides for Canadian renters — because most tenants don't know what's illegal in their lease until it's too late.

Why we exist

Canadian landlords routinely include illegal clauses in leases — clauses that charge tenants for normal wear and tear, waive their right to proper notice, or demand deposits beyond what provincial law permits. Most renters sign without realizing these clauses are unenforceable.

RentalProof started as a response to this information gap. We believe renters shouldn't need a lawyer to know whether their lease is legal.

What we build

Lease Analyzer

Upload your lease — PDF or text — and get a clause-by-clause breakdown of what's legal, what's illegal, and what you can challenge. $10/analysis.

Inspector

A free mobile-first tool to document your unit at move-in and move-out. Photo every room, note every defect, generate a timestamped PDF report. Your evidence if there's ever a deposit dispute.

Our coverage

We focus on Canadian provinces with the most active rental markets — Alberta, Ontario, and British Columbia — with general Canadian tenancy content for all provinces.

We're not lawyers, and nothing on this site is legal advice. But we do our best to make sure everything we publish is accurate, current, and actually useful.
